Use it or Lose it is a passion project established by The Jacky Winter Group, a creative representation and production agency with offices in Melbourne and New York. Upholding and defending our artists’ usage rights is a critical part of our business for us as an agency, our artists as a group, and our industry as a whole.
When Jacky Winter was born (over a decade ago), we looked to major industry bodies to define our position on usage and licensing, and there are several key institutions that continue to be fierce champions for individual artists’ rights. Now we want to bring all of these bodies together — along with other artist agencies, professional societies, and clients across the globe — to publicly support this initiative by stating their own policies on this issue, as well as contributing their own unique perspectives here to this site.
Below is a list of our industry partners and supporters. These are people who have committed themselves to developing and upholding policies and procedures around licensing and usage fees in an effort to make things clearer and healthier for all in the creative industries. It’s a record of the businesses and individuals who share the same goals of opening up this conversation and finding a sustainable way to support creative production. Use this list to learn more about which professional societies can support you in your aim to further this conversation. Many of these grassroots organisations have their own phenomenal resources that anyone can benefit from, regardless of your discipline or location.
Use it or Lose it is an evolving project which is only just getting started. The more voices we can include, the better chance we have of working towards a system that considers all aspects of the creative exchange. We want to work with other professional societies, representing different professions, languages, and countries. We want to hear from all sides of the spectrum and make sure that everyone has the opportunity to learn from and teach each other. This is the first small step in a much larger conversation we’re trying to have, and we need your support in order to evolve this message. If you would like to support this initiative as an industry partner, please contact us for more details. If you want to become a supporter and take The Pledge, just head over here.
